How to Match an LED Power Supply to a Display Lighting Project

Match a display lighting power supply using the lamp or module requirements and the supply label. Check output voltage, current, operating arrangement and connection details together. A connector that looks familiar is not sufficient evidence of electrical compatibility.

Read input and output as separate specifications

The input describes the supply connection to the mains. The output describes the electrical supply delivered to the lighting. A wide input range does not make the output suitable for every LED product. Read the dedicated OUTPUT line when checking a label, especially if a product-family heading or older description contains different information.

These watt values are arithmetic nominal output examples, not measured efficiency or a guarantee of compatibility. Check the exact supply model and lighting specification before assigning an adapter to a project.

Confirm the interface and intended use

• Output connector, pin arrangement and polarity where applicable.

• Lamp or module electrical requirements and quantity.

• Permitted connection arrangement and any model-specific load limits.

• Destination plug, mains lead and input specification.

• Installation environment and the restrictions stated on the label.

Separate components clearly in the quotation

List the supply, lamps, leads and any branch cable as distinct items. Ask which components are included and which are optional. For several fixtures, provide the proposed wiring arrangement so the supply configuration can be reviewed. Do not infer a maximum lamp count from connector appearance or a product photograph.

Replacing an existing adapter

Send a readable photo of the complete old label, both connectors and the lighting it powers. Include the original model if known. If a label is unclear, request confirmation before choosing a replacement; a similar case size or plug shape does not establish an equivalent supply.
